high art

yesterday, while looking for something on the ikea website, i came across this image...
that literally made me stop and stare.
i love the art, placed super high on the walls:

what do you think about this look?
would you hang art this high?
do you have any pieces this high in your own home?
do tell...

  1. I love it. Draws the eye up and fills the space without looking junky.

  2. I like it too. It looks curated more than designed.

  3. I think it works well in this space. The bookshelves keep the bottom portion of the wall weighted and since the pieces are small they don't feel top heavy. I think it would look pretty funny if the shelves weren't there :)

  4. i agree that it looks really great in this image...but you are right...it definitely needs something to balance it. if the shelves were not there, it would look odd!

  6. This was my inspiration for my wall of shelves + gallery wall! My ceilings aren't quite as high, but I put my gallery wall above it and I'm in love! You can check out my reveal here:

  7. A couple of months ago I toured the home of Mary Carol Garrity, the founder of Nell Hill. She's pretty well-known as a decorator in the Midwest. Anyway, she's famous for hanging art HIGH, especially over doorways. It's a great look in rooms with tall ceilings and lots of built-ins.

  8. love art and I like when an installation features it in a different and unusual manner such as this image...I have had paintings in my kitchen for years and many people find that unusual but highly effective...
    wonderful post and idea...

  9. love it! I think the pale frames and not too bold images are key, otherwise it would get really top heavy. Great use of otherwise negative space!

  12. I never seen soemthing like this, but it's fantastic. I'm so tired of putting plants and jars etc on top of cabinets to fill the space. This is a lovely idea, and it keeps it clean and simple - not junky. LOVE.

  13. Great solution for filling an empty space above bookshelves. When your ceilings are high that's always an issue.
